Not even five minutes into the second period, Syvret snuck the puck by the distracted goalie causing the score to be 1-0 for the Flyers.
With two minutes and eighteen seconds left in the third period, Mark Recchi of the Bruins tied the game in a power play with Flyers' Kimmo Timonen on a tripping penalty, causing the game to go into overtime. Goaltender Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins hustled during overtime, blocking a couple shots at net, keeping the Bruins in the game. On the Bruins' first shot at net, Marco Sturm won Boston the game! This game was the first game in the winter classic history where the home team took home a victory. This 2010 winter classic game, and the third annual game of its kind, was exhilarating throughout each and every period—the crowd was wild with excitement.
The decisions for next years winter classic game has not yet been determined, but rumor has it that locations have already been discussed. The Twins Stadium, a long time awaited stadium in Minnesota, will be officially opening in late 2010. It is said to be the perfect location for the game in 2011, as it will be opening just in time and will receive a lot of press. This would mean that the Minnesota Wild would be one of the teams competing in this annual event. Now the question is, who would the Wilds be competing against? Rumour has it that the primal choice would be the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins would bring the press - playing their second winter classic game in a brand new stadium - and the Wilds would get a chance for more recognition. They say it would be the perfect combination. However, others are saying that the Yankee Stadium in New York will be the next location for the annual winter classic game as it was considered for the previous three games but didn't quite make the cut. These rumors state that the New York Rangers would be best up against Toronto Maple Leafs, as both teams are high media targets and would be perfect for ratings. Anxiousness arises in hockey fans everywhere while these decisions on the 2011 winter classic game are being made.
